2011 Vision Award Honorees

Presented by the Center for Photography at Woodstock

Wendy & Fred, Fred & Wendy

Dear Wendy and Fred, dear Fred and Wendy… Well, who’s first? Not one of you - you are both first!

At least, that’s how I have always felt when we were together, be it in Houston at your home, in Denmark at my museum, walking in the streets of the City of Mexico, or in Japan visiting Eikoh Hosoe. Since 1988, when I first came to Houston, I have been in your magic circle, learning from you and from all the wonderful artists I have met across the portfolio tables at your Meeting Place. These meetings, as well as your festive photography auctions, account for a serious part of the modern stock of international photography in the collections of Museet for Fotokunst in Denmark.

If I dare to sum up the most important parts of our friendship over the years it should be the fact that the two of you always managed to connect a splendid efficiency in organization, a deep artistic knowledge, and a strong geopolitical awareness with a Homeric sense of humor.

I think the sound of your healthy laughter shall stay with me as the best memory for the rest of my life. Hope to see you again…

- Yours gratefully, Finn (Thrane)
